Billy Boan Addresses National Board Certified Teachers® at NBPTS® Conference in D.C. July 22, 2005 Washington, D.C. - Billy Boan of Hodges Consulting Group addressed a group of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) and administrators during a seminar at the 2005 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards National Conference in Washington, D.C. Joined by Ann Byrd, Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, & Advancement (CERRA) Executive Director, and Kathy Schwalbe, CERRA Program Director, the group discussed the history and success of National Board in South Carolina and strategies for growing the program in other states.
South Carolina ranks third in the nation with nearly 4,000 NBCTs, surpassed only by North Carolina and Florida. In South Carolina, teachers who achieve National Board Certification ® earn a $7,500 salary supplement for the 10-year life of the certificate.
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan and nongovernmental organization governed by a board of directors, the majority of whom are classroom teachers. Its mission is to establish high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do.
